“The International Qods Day is the symbol of the empathy of the world people especially Muslims with the oppressed Palestinian nation,” parts of the Supreme Cultural Revolution Council’s statement read.


International Qods Day is an annual event opposing Israel’s occupation of Baitul-Muqaddas. Anti-Zionist demonstrations are held on the last Friday of Ramadan in Muslim and Arab countries around the world, and especially in Iran, where the occasion was first suggested by Ayatollah Khomeini in 1979.

Mahmoud Ahmadinejad in 63rd UN

The Islamic Republic of Iran's president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad in a speech at the 63rd UN General Assembly session pointed to the world community's challenges and elaborated on Iran's stances toward regional and world issues. His speech in this regard and his proposals for solving them indicate Iran's high capability in helping to solve international problems. A large part of world problems stem from big powers' unilateralism and their dual approach to certain issues such as their lack of commitment to international laws on disarmament. Thus the Iranian president presented solutions to help disarmament. First he said the IAEA should present a clear report on the nuclear disarmament of the so-called big powers as well as on Iran's peaceful nuclear activity. Second a disarmament committee should be formed by independent states to supervise the disarmament of the dangerously nuclear-armed powers. The unending arms race and the threat to use weapons of mass destruction plus the establishment of a missile system have created concerns and instability on the international arena. Rather than disarming based on the NPT and the disarmament convention, big powers are producing a new generation of atomic bombs. On one hand they act contrary to international laws trying to stop Iran's peaceful and legal nuclear activity on baseless pretexts in order to prevent Iran's progress, and on the other they secretly and illegally put equipment to make nuclear weapons at their allies' disposal, mainly the usurper state of Israel. They intend to monopolize nuclear technology so as to impose their will on other nations. They have also prevented the IAEA from carrying out its task of transferring nuclear technology to developing states. All these have disrupted the world disarmament system and that is why President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad reiterated the need for forming a disarmament committee by independent states.
