Velayati: Westerners Yet to Know Iran

TEHRAN (FNA)- Advisor to Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution on International Affairs Ali Akbar Velayati said that Westerners and aliens have not yet understood Iran.

Ali Akbar Velayati who had attended the 'Special Dialogue' program of IRIB Channel 2 TV on Wednesday night, was asked by the anchorman to present his viewpoints on recent developments in Iran and the interference of the foreigners in them, as well as the legitimacy of such interferences in accordance with international norms, and whether such conduct has any precedence.

He replied, "This is not the first time that our people are faced with such a situation."

Velayati added, "The Iranian nation has certain characteristics that have led to the strength of this nation and this country and to the long historic coherence of thousands of years (of the Iranian civilization), in which there is no breakage in their national and cultural identity."

He emphasized, "The Iranian nation is among the few ancient nations that have survived without any breakage in their civilization on earth and the secret behind the long lasting life of this nation is their wisdom, their attachment to their national identity and respect for the identity of other nations, and their resistance against the totalitarian tendencies of the other tribes and the aggressors against their territorial integrity and the national identity of their country."

On some comments made by western officials on June 12 Election, particularly by the French President Nicholas Sarkozy and the Italian Foreign Minister Frattini, he said, "On Italian government and its foreign minister who has been many times accused and sentenced for financial corruption, it was made clear again that he is neither familiar with the international scene, nor he understands Iran."

Velayati emphasized, "My advice for the Italian Embassy in Tehran is to narrate for Frattini some episodes of the Iranian history."

The former Iranian FM reiterated, "I even suggest that they should visit the Naqsh-e-Rostam historical site (near Shiraz) and to take some photos of the way that the (Iranian King) Shapour I is treating the Roman Emperor Valerian and to send the snapshots for Frattini, so that he would realize this is not the first time that the Romans are biting at pieces larger than their mouths. That pride inspiring engraving on stone for the Iranians and humiliating one for the Romans remains there as a reminder."

Focusing on the martyrdom of the Egyptian veiled women in Germany and the silence of the German and G8 leaders about the event on the one hand, and their hue and cry over the death of Neda Aqa-Soltan on the other hand, he said, "If we would decide to live up to the standards they intend to dictate upon us, the result would be what we are witnesses to, since they are used to observing double standards all the time."

He added, "What happened for this Egyptian lady was a very bitter incidence, but what reaction can we expect of the westerners, or from the Germans? They are the ones that have always adopted contradictory stands in confrontation with various events that have not even been few and far apart."

The Supreme Leader's International Affairs Advisor referring to the stands adopted by the West towards the Iranian Presidential Election, said, "The servants of this nation are those that resist against the infiltration of the aliens in this country and said no to them, although they might have had unsolved disputes among themselves."

He reiterated, "Therefore, the aliens' fate is known in advance; they are doomed to face defeat (in their propaganda), and this means they have not yet understood Iran."
