Supreme Leader: Enemies' Threats against Iran Futile
TEHRAN (FNA)- Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei said Iran's enemies have always failed in their continued confrontation against the Islamic Republic during the last three decades due to the strong resistance shown by the Iranian nation, and they will fail in any future confrontation against the Iranian nation as well.
"This confrontation has continued for the last 31 years in different forms, including military attacks, political assaults, economic blockade and other types of threats, but the resistance shown by the Iranian nation has made the Islamic establishment's holy tree and strengthened construction more glorious and more rooted each day," Ayatollah Khamenei said on Monday, addressing students of Imam Hossein University on the occasion of the liberation the Iranian city of Khoramshahr.
The Leader downplayed enemies' ability to harm the Iranian nation, and said, "Enemies of the Iranian nation will definitely be defeated today as they were defeated in 1980."
Ayatollah Khamenei further blasted the crimes committed by the US and its allies in the different parts of the world, specially in Afghanistan, Pakistan, Iraq and the Palestinian territories, and described Iran's enemies as the root cause and element of crimes and insecurities in the world.
Today, May 24 is the annual anniversary of the liberation of Iran's southwestern city of Khorramshahr. Former Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein's forces captured the port city of Khoramshahr on October 26, 1980 in a surprise attack on the early days of the Iraqi-imposed war on Iran (1980-1988) but Iranian forces liberated the city on the 3rd of Khordad (May 24, 1982) in a massive military operation named 'Beit-al-moqaddas'.
Khoramshahr's liberation day is remembered and celebrated all throughout Iran every year.
